A guy who does not think weight is an issue obviously never had to walk that far, or must be in the ultimate shape. I have seen Triathletes trim material off their shorts and shoes to save every little of fraction of an ounce.

Scope mount:I don’t like the Larue Tactical 11″ quad-rail that came with the 16″ Stealth upper. While a most excellently made device, I just don’t use most of the rail. It seems too heavy and with the plastic protectors, too large in diameter.
I really like something like Daniel Defense MFR 12.0 concept, except I want to keep it at 11″ in length.

7/11/2003 4:11:37 PM work outside on the grass. buy some burlap. buy bits’ of cammo cloth and other fabrics to even it out. fray the ends with a sharp knife. works well with the fabric. make the colors patchy. not the whole thing one even color be prepared to trim areas around the brim and tops of knees. save some and make/modify kneepads. remember. these things don’t work unless you really know how to use them (use terrane). they limit your visibility and make you look like something a hunter wants to shoot. so be careful! also they get hot and when wet they get heavy! like 40-60 lbs heavy. if you can make up a pouch or flap to access pockets that are part of your undergarment you are much better off than having this giant “over coat” that you can’t get anything out of. expect the burlap to constantly gum up a zippers, buttons or Velcro. SHIPPINGAnyone here make a Ghillie Suit Suit utilizing the colors of Multicam? If so, which colors did you use, and from what supplier? Also, what ratio of each color was applied to blend them? Pictures please, preferably ones taken with actual MultiCam gear for comparison. rock71

I’d like to warn people about buying scope mounts from LaRue Tactical since you may well not get the one you need, and then they won’t do anything about it. When you spend $250.00 for a scope mount, it damn well be the one you needed, especially when you called and spoke to their rep before ordering.
If you could warn your readers, I think it would be a great service to them. Perhaps ask David to do the same. The story is in the below email stream.
The picture of my rife, scope mount and scope fitted and bore-sighted attached. As you can see, it has to go all the way up to the turret to get a decent eye relief. Also, I had to crank it all the way up to get it bore-sighted for 100 yards, leaving no more elevation for greater distances.
Before anyone buys a quick disconnect sight from LaRue Tactical, they better know exactly what they need to get because the reps at LaRue have no idea.
The shame is that I have previously purchased two other mounts for ACOGS for my other rifles from them. Still they have no interest in rectifying this situation.

My son has been collecting the components to build himself a 7.62 NATO sniper platform on an Armalite receiver much like the one pictured. He was thinking, if memory serves me correctly, of getting a LaRue Tactical mount like the one pictured. I will discourage him from doing so. –

I do believe the Army can take the time to correct the complaints fostered with their SAGE stocked rifles, they are correctable, but training and leadership are not what they should be and all too often the brass accepts the complaints from line grunts and choose to drop the weapon system rather than provide the proper training the soldiers need to use and maintain the weapon system effectively.
Oh and yes, the Marines are much better at training their shooters.
ETA: when it comes to parts for the M14 Scope Mounts rifle system, remember you are competeing with Uncle Deep Pockets.
New parts are being made but the manufacturers know if they can set a profitable price with Uncle Your Tax Dollars at Work, that price will carry over to the civilian market.
Uncle Your Tax Dollars at Work isn’t in the habit of releasing surplus gun parts right now either.

After doing a web search, I found some information on the DCM M14 Scope Mounts program and assumed that some were eventually sold to the civilian market. After the information in this thread, I will forget about that idea, although it impressed me enough to still want a M1A Scope Mounts instead. It felt less stable to me than my AR when shooting off hand, but I was still able to score decent. It got pretty windy throughout the day but I only needed to add 1 click of windage at 600 yds. Naturally, the AR15′s were adding a bunch more clicks and were effected more when the wind changed direction. It was a very comfortable rifle to shoot in general and would love one for a dual purpose hunting and target shooting rifle.

I know that 50 cal ammo cans work great, both the old/new USGI and the plastic ones from some of the dealers out there. HOWEVER I was looking for something that I can store all my Mags is, spare parts, etc that require something larger then the standard ammo can. Don’t get me wrong, I can just get ALOT of ammo cans and do the job, but has someone found a better idea? The best I could come up is rubbermaid bins of different sizes and some rubbermaid drawers for smaller stuff. Kuraki
